2021 Graduation Ceremonies postponed

We have taken the difficult decision to postpone our 2021 degree graduation ceremonies, which were due to take place next month.
The decision taken reflects current public health and government advice, particularly in relation to the recent announcement of the delay in the lifting of restrictions to 19th July, and the current guidance around travel in and out of Lancashire.
Our Chief Executive and Principal has written to all affected students. You can read more here:
Dear Graduating Student,
It is with great sadness that I write to inform you that University Centre Myerscough has taken the very difficult decision to postpone its graduation ceremonies, due to take place on 8th July 2021. We realise how hugely disappointing this news will be to those who had confirmed their attendance at their ceremony, however I can assure you that this is not a decision that we have taken lightly.
The decision that we have taken reflects current public health and government advice, particularly in relation to the recent announcement of the delay in the lifting of restrictions to 19th July.
You will also be aware that Lancashire is currently a higher risk area than other parts of the country due to the spreading of the Delta variant, and current advice is to avoid travel into as well as out of the area. Our priority has always been the health and safety of our graduating students and their guests, as well as our own staff, and after undertaking significant risk assessments and consultation, it is on this basis that we have taken this very difficult decision.
Whist we have explored other viable options for Graduation, we are determined to hold the celebrations that our students deserve, that being to celebrate on campus, in person with their family and friends as well as other graduating students. We have therefore tentatively re-scheduled our ceremonies for July 2022, when we look forward to welcoming graduates from 2020, 2021 as well as 2022.
Our graduation ceremonies are an integral part of University Centre Myerscough’s calendar; however, they are a ceremonial event and will in no way impact on you achieving your degree. Subject to the confirmation of degree results, those students due to graduate this summer will still do so, it is only the ceremonies themselves that are delayed.
For those who have hired academic dress and booked photography with Ede & Ravenscroft, you will receive a full refund of any monies already paid. There is of course still the option to hire your academic dress for an extended period and have this delivered to your home address so that you can celebrate your graduation safely with friends and family. You can do this by accessing Ede & Ravenscroft’s Graduation Services website and selecting ‘Not Attending a Graduation Event’.
As we look forward, our aim now is to plan and organise bigger and better events for 2022, and we will be in touch closer to the time, once arrangements are confirmed. To support future communications, we would ask that you let us know of any changes to your contact details as they arise.
You can do this by emailing us at curricadmin@myerscough.ac.uk
Thank you for your understanding in what has been a challenging eighteen months. Both last year’s graduates and this year’s graduands have been incredible year groups of students and we are very proud of you all.
We look forward to celebrating your achievements next year but wish you every happiness and success in the meantime.
With very best wishes,
Alison Robinson
Chief Executive & Principal
